Bill Joyce has built a reputation as one of the leading construction lawyers in the region, having represented many of the largest general contractors in the area in litigation and arbitration—in Minnesota and across the country.

He has also successfully represented owners, material suppliers and design professionals in a variety of construction disputes in federal and state courts and before arbitration tribunals. Bill's construction claims experience includes the following representative matters:

  • Prosecuted defective design claims on behalf of a general contractor against the project engineer regarding construction of streets and housing on an Air Force base project in North Dakota
  • Prosecuted defective work claims on behalf of a general contractor against subcontractors related to construction of a hospital and medical clinic in Illinois
  • Prosecuted change order claims and delay claims on behalf of a general contractor against an owner of a condominium project in Minnesota
  • Defended defective work claims made by an owner against a general contractor related to construction of a multi-use project in Colorado
  • Defended a material supplier against claims by an owner related to a project in South Carolina
  • Defended defective works claims made by a condominium association against a general contractor for a project located in Hawaii
  • Prosecuted various constructive change order claims before the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals related to a hospital project in Alaska
  • Prosecuted change order claims on behalf of a contractor against an owner arising out of a road improvement project in Wisconsin
  • Prosecuted change order and delay claims on behalf of a contractor against an owner related to a hospital project in Minnesota
  • Defended a general contractor against an owner's defective work claims related to a hospital project in California
  • Defended a general contractor against wrongful termination claims by a subcontractor related to a construction project in Iowa
  • Successfully appealed insurance coverage cases involving contractors in published decisions: O'Shaughnessy v. Smuckler Corp., 543 N.W.2d 99 (Minn. Ct. App. 1996); Thommes and Thomas Landscaping v. Milwaukee Mutual Insurance Co., 641 N.W.2d 877 (Minn. 2002).
