Minneapolis (23-January-2012) - Thomas W. Beimers has joined Faegre Baker Daniels LLP from the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the Inspector General. As special counsel, he will practice with the health care team from the firm's Minneapolis office.

Beimers will advise health care clients on regulatory compliance and health fraud matters and will represent them in criminal, civil and administrative proceedings, including by conducting internal investigations and providing risk management services. He will also assist clients by developing compliance and risk management plans and negotiating corporate integrity agreements.

Beimers served as senior counsel to the HHS Office of the Inspector General from 2007 to 2011, where he helped resolve major False Claims Act cases against pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers and represented HHS at civil and administrative hearings. From 2008 to 2010, he was a special assistant United States attorney, serving as a prosecutor for the Justice Department's Medicare Fraud Strike Force in Detroit, Mich. In that role, Beimers supervised investigations into violations of criminal health care fraud laws; money laundering laws; mail and wire fraud laws; and the federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. In recognition of his outstanding prosecutorial and trial skills, Beimers received DOJ's Assistant Attorney General's Award and a special commendation from the FBI in 2010.

Beimers began his legal career as a litigation associate with Covington & Burling LLP in Washington, D.C. before spending more than four years as an associate in the government enforcement and appellate groups at the Washington, D.C. office of Ropes & Gray LLP. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Gerald W. Heaney in the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Beimers earned his law degree magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School and his bachelor's degree in political science from Macalester College.
