John Enstone

Partner

As a General Counsel and Company Secretary and then in private practice, John Enstone has acted for and against cutting edge IT and telecoms companies and users around the world in relation to their core businesses and across the breadth of their corporate and operational requirements. As one of the few technology lawyers with project and senior management experience, he has acquired a reputation for bringing substantial commercial acumen and objectivity to legal advice.

John's main focus is on satisfying the broad range of legal needs of North American and European companies, particularly those operating internationally. While his experience covers many industries, his specialization is in the IT, online and telecom sectors. John has had long-term assignments in Europe, the Middle East and North America and worked with both new and established operations. He has advised on contractual, corporate and other matters on all media on every continent except Antarctica and over nearly 30 years has developed particular expertise in doing business in the Middle East and North Africa.

Beyond technology, John has long experience building and managing teams and advising clients on all aspects of their domestic and global transactions, particularly market entry, acquisitions and operations. He has also advised on a number of transactions in the health care, pharmaceuticals, finance, commodities, insurance, energy and related fields, including oil and gas, and on renewable energy projects.

John has also advised several global financial institutions on their IT acquisitions and operations as well as their online systems. He has led teams which outsourced the entire IT operations of a global Internet bank and structured the European IT operations of another. John has also outsourced the online services of a major UK insurance broker and dealt extensively with disaster recovery and the security aspects of online operations. Most recently he has advised an offshoring services provider on a very large outsourcing of software development and processing to India.

John has extensive experience of advising on public sector projects. He has acted for both public sector organisations and suppliers to the public sector in connection with a number of large and complex projects including a consortium of global IT companies on the NHS's £6 billion outsourcing.

John's telecoms experience extends over 25 years and began with the sale of private network systems in the Middle East and SE Asia. Since then he has worked in every sector of the telecoms industry from network management, system implementation and billing software development to VoIP, mobile, satellite, local and long distance service provision.

John is the author of a number of articles in the areas of IT, telecoms and the conduct of global business, including commentary on the serious commercial implications of the National Health Service Outsourcing Project contract form and a contributor to a text on International Exporting Agreements.
