Alter, a conference co-chair and moderator, will present "Software, Business Method and Tax-Related Patents." Presentation highlights include:
- The changing patentability landscape for software and business methods in the United States, with a discussion of In re Comiskey, In re Nuijten, etc.
- Possible demise of tax-related patents
- Patentability of software and business methods in Europe and China
Hanlon-Leh will discuss "Declaratory Judgment Actions After SanDisk." Presentation highlights include:
- U.S. Supreme Court decision in MedImmune and subsequent Federal Circuit decisions in SanDisk and Teva
- Increased availability of declaratory judgment actions by accused infringers and prospective licensees
- District court trends under the new declaratory judgment standard
Offered through the Law Education Institute, the 25th Annual National CLE Conference consists of 10 separate CLE tracks. The Intellectual Property track will take place at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort.
Scott Alter, a partner in the Faegre & Benson intellectual property practice, focuses on matters concerning software, electronics, e-commerce activities and semiconductor technologies. His experience includes developing strategies for protecting technology assets, establishing invention disclosure programs, conducting product risk assessment, handling due diligence and agreement negotiations for corporate transactions, and managing complex patent prosecution.
Natalie Hanlon-Leh leads the Faegre & Benson intellectual property practice in Colorado. Her practice focuses primarily on intellectual property litigation including patent, copyright, trademark and trade secrets matters. Hanlon-Leh has substantial experience with injunctions and expedited proceedings.
