IFA Franchise Business Network Luncheon

It's All About the Nature of System Standards/Controls: Best Practices to Proactively Address Joint Employer and Vicarious Liability Issues

Golden Valley, MN

Overview

Please join us at the next gathering of the IFA’s Franchise Business Network-Minneapolis/St. Paul hosted by Faegre Baker Daniels.

Since the NLRB’s ruling in Browning-Ferris changed the standard for determining joint-employer status, franchisors are anxiously seeking ways to address the business and legal implications. In addition to the NLRB, other regulatory agencies like the Department of Labor also are looking for ways to hold a franchisor responsible for what occurs at a franchisee’s business. These recent regulatory developments are coupled with an increase in vicarious liability lawsuits where the claims focus on the nature of franchisor controls over the franchisee in an attempt to hold the franchisor responsible for the acts of the franchisee.

We are pleased that IFA President & CEO Robert Cresanti will attend our January FBN luncheon. In addition, Brian Schnell and Kerry Bundy from Faegre Baker Daniels will join Robert in a robust discussion of the following:

  • An update on IFA’s efforts to protect the franchise business model from these external attacks
  • Key franchise agreement changes a franchisor should consider to address these issues
  • Steps to avoid or minimize potential liability with a focus on how to balance the roles and responsibilities of the franchisor and franchisee
  • Best practices regarding training, technology, system standards, field support and the operations manual

Registration Fee: $30/person

Lunch is included in the registration fee.
