Indiana University Presents Inaugural Albright Award

Indiana University presented Alex Kornya the inaugural Terry and Judy Albright Pro Bono and Public Interest Award at the IU School of Law - Bloomington's annual pro bono awards ceremony recently.

The Terry and Judy Albright Award is named for Baker & Daniels partner Terry Albright and his late wife, Judy. Albright has been a leader in pro bono and public interest work throughout his career and helped to establish Baker & Daniels' pro bono partnership with the IU School of Law - Bloomington. This partnership includes the funding of two Baker & Daniels Pro Bono Fellows, Judy Reckelhoff, a second-year law student, and Rachael Yates, a third-year law student, to coordinate student pro bono and public interest service.

"We thought it appropriate to recognize Terry and Judy's dedication to pro bono and public interest work," said Tom Froehle, Baker & Daniels' Chair and Chief Executive Partner. "This award is intended to recognize students who provide commitments of time and leadership to pro bono and public interest service, while at the same time expressing our appreciation to Terry and Judy for their long history of service and commitment to others."

Kornya, a 2008 Indiana Law graduate, was recognized for his work with the Monroe County Domestic Violence Task Force, his role as a student advisor and co-director of the Protective Order Project, and his internships with the District 10 Pro Bono Project and Indiana Legal Services in Bloomington. He has accepted a position with Iowa Legal Aid.

"This award is a singularly appropriate tribute to Terry and Judy Albright," Indiana University School of Law - Bloomington Dean Lauren Robel said in a release by Indiana University. "Both have given so much of their time, energy and vision to service the law school and the Indiana community at large. Their example inspires our students to greater public service and leadership."
