Murray Clark Outlines Republican Efforts at Gary NAACP 90th Birthday

"The Republican Party represents the entrepreneurial spirit so alive in the black community," Indiana Republican Party Chairman Murray Clark, a lawyer at Baker & Daniels, told the Gary, Indiana, chapter of the NAACP on its 90th birthday, according to a Republican Party news release.

"We speak for small business owners who seek to grow and prosper," Clark continued. "We speak for people who are unhappy with their education system and want the ability to choose the schools that are best for their children. The Republican Party is the party of innovation in government, seeking ways to get goods and services to people more quickly and efficiently."

In his speech, Clark also talked about the rich history of Republicans fighting for the civil rights of African-Americans and the innovative and inclusive programs initiated by Governor Mitch Daniels. Other highlights of Clark's speech included:

"We removed the barriers to Minority Business Enterprise certification, and we even provided assistance to companies in order to obtain that certification - something that was forbidden previously."

"The Minority Business Enterprise efforts at Lucas Oil Stadium are playing huge dividends. Minority Business Enterprise firms account for 14.3 percent of all contracts, far greater than original projections. Our goal is 15 percent, and since more bids were received in the past few weeks, I'm confident we'll get there."

"It's been estimated that 130,000 jobs will be created because of the Major Moves transportation plan. Major Opportunities will help qualified African-American companies and workers obtain good-paying jobs in the construction industry."

"We were elected in 2004 on the promise of providing new leadership, and we are keeping our promise. For the people who say that the Republican Party doesn't care about Lake County, just think about the job opportunity programs I mentioned earlier. Additionally, no governor in recent history has spent more time in northwest Indiana than has Governor Daniels. He has been to Lake County more than 35 times since taking office and most recently, he was here for the groundbreaking on the runway expansion of the Gary Airport, and he presented the NW Indiana Regional Transit Authority with $20 million for use at the airport as prescribed by Major Moves."
