Nicole Truso is a member of the Faegre Baker Daniels labor and employment group. She counsels employers regarding a wide variety of employment issues, advises clients in complex transactions, and defends employers in employment-related litigation.
Compliance and Transactional
Nicole's practice includes advising clients in employment issues related to acquisitions, including advising employers in transactions involving the acquisition of international employees, advising employers regarding the legal compliance of employment policies and practices in acquisitions, and drafting agreements for transitioning employees and consultants post-acquisition.
Nicole also prepares and reviews a variety of employment agreements policies, including employment contracts, separation agreements, employee handbooks, non-competition, and confidentiality agreements.
Litigation
Nicole defends employers against claims of breach of contract, discrimination, retaliation, and other related claims in state and federal court, as well as before administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and state and local civil rights departments.
She works closely with clients to prepare responses to charges of discrimination filed with the EEOC and state and local agencies and has obtained dismissals or decisions not to proceed in discrimination claims based on age, sex, race, and retaliation.
Representative litigation matters include:
- Defended employer in claims of sex, sexual orientation, and disability claims;
- Defended employer in collective-action brought under ERISA and breach of contract claims;
- Defended employer in arbitration regarding breach of contract and defamation claims.
Like other lawyers in the firm's labor and employment group, Nicole frequently consults with other group members whose practices are focused differently. This team approach allows Nicole and all of the lawyers in the employment group to give expert advice in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
Prior to joining the firm, Nicole served as a judicial extern for Hon. Patrick J. Schiltz, United States District Court, District of Minnesota. In this role, Nicole Court, drafted memorandums for use in judicial opinions, researched legal issues for judicial determinations, reviewed opinions and court records, and observed court proceedings.
