Baker & Daniels Celebrates Opening of New South Bend Office

Baker & Daniels LLP celebrated the grand opening of its new South Bend office located in one of downtown's most prominent buildings. During ribbon-cutting ceremonies on May 22, Mayor Steve Luecke joined with representatives of the law firm and the business community to celebrate a multimillion-dollar renovation project involving the Baker & Daniels office space and the entire KeyBank Building.

Last April, Baker & Daniels signed a 15-year lease for the top five floors of the 14-story KeyBank Building at Michigan Street and Jefferson Boulevard, one of downtown's most visible corners.

Gary Lee Partners, a nationally recognized architectural firm with offices in Chicago, New York and San Francisco, designed a complete renovation of the top floors of the building with emphasis on environmental innovations and a unique open staircase connecting the firm's space.

The building owner, Hinman Group, and KeyBank invested between $7 million and $8 million for exterior, lobby, elevator and other renovations of the building. The City of South Bend financed the planned revitalization of the plaza directly west of the building.

Richard L. Hill, the managing partner of Baker & Daniels' South Bend office, said, "Our new space and amenities permit us to provide an even higher level of service to our clients and provide the support required by the work of our professionals. We are thrilled to be part of a downtown redevelopment project and to have a facility that not only our clients but the entire community can enjoy. We have made our meeting and conference space available to a number of community groups and organizations."

Baker & Daniels outgrew its space in the First Bank Building at Main Street and Jefferson Boulevard, which it had occupied since opening its South Bend office in 1990.

Tom Froehle, Baker & Daniels' chief executive partner, said, "We continually seek to improve our service to clients, and the new office allows us to further enhance the service we provide from South Bend to clients on a regional, national and, in many cases, an international basis. This renovated office supports our people and our practices."

"We are proud to partner with Baker & Daniels and KeyBank," Mayor Luecke said. "With great investments like this in downtown, we know that South Bend will continue to see even more growth and the development of more jobs and opportunities for our community."
