Baker & Daniels received the Sponsor's Award in recognition of its assistance in establishing the Indiana Lawyers for Soldiers program, which matches Indiana National Guardsmen and women in need of legal services with attorneys throughout the state. Legal assistance is then provided pro bono to these Guardsmen and women.
The Sponsor's Award was accepted by Baker & Daniels partners Carl Pebworth and Jennett Hill, both of whom played critical roles in the establishment of the Lawyers for Soldiers program. Pebworth, a member of the firm's construction and real property liability practice, chairs Baker & Daniels' pro bono committee. Hill, a partner in the firm's exempt organizations practice, serves on Baker & Daniels' pro bono committee and leads coordination of the firm's efforts in the Lawyers for Soldiers program.
"We are honored that Baker & Daniels was recognized for efforts in assisting Indiana Guardsmen and women," said Hill. "This acknowledgment serves as a reminder that our efforts are worthwhile and are making a difference in the lives of the men and women who work hard every day in service to our country."
As explained at the banquet, the Sponsor's Award for Exceptional Service is presented annually to an individual or group whose efforts on behalf of Hoosier military personnel and their families are particularly noteworthy. Baker & Daniels was recognized for the establishment of an online application service for Guardsmen and women in need of legal assistance and for the coordination of a statewide network of attorneys willing to provide counsel to members of the Guard free of charge.
