Faegre & Benson LLP has earned a score of 95 (out of 100) in the 2011 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) of the Human Rights Campaign, marking the sixth consecutive year in which the firm has scored 95 or better. The CEI ranks employers nationwide annually on their treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) employees, consumers, and investors.
In 2004, Faegre & Benson became the first law firm in Minnesota to earn a rating on the index—reinforcing Faegre & Benson's position as a recognized leader in promoting diversity in the legal community.
"Faegre & Benson defines diversity broadly to include the full range of life experiences we find within our firm—and among our clients and communities," said Kristine McKinney, the firm's diversity and inclusion manager. "We believe it is a testament to our inclusive culture that we have been at the top of the list for six years running."
GLBT issues are fully integrated into Faegre & Benson's diversity efforts. The firm maintains an inclusive equal employment opportunity policy that covers both sexual orientation and gender identity, includes GLBT couples and families in its benefits programs, covers GLBT issues in its workplace diversity training, and engages in concerted outreach to GLBT candidates in its recruiting efforts.
The Corporate Equality Index bases its ratings of more than 500 businesses in various sectors on factors such as non-discrimination policies, diversity training and benefits for domestic partners and transgender employees.
