"My biggest accomplishment so far has been to successfully balance a rewarding and fulfilling career with raising a family," Abigail M. Butler of Baker & Daniels LLP told the Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly in a Q&A after being chosen to the 40 Under 40 Class of 2010.
"I have been very fortunate that Baker & Daniels has allowed me to maintain a flexible and reduced hours schedule that not only permits but encourages me to devote substantial attention to both my career and to my family," Butler continued in the publication. "Having the flexible and reduced hours schedule I've had since my first child was born six years ago has allowed me to maintain a sense of balance and purpose in my life. Also, working this schedule has made me more efficient and a very accomplished multi-tasker!"
Butler and other 40 Under 40 recipients were honored at an evening event recently. The Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly saluted 40 people under 40 years of age who are making their mark in the Great Fort Wayne area.
Butler is a partner at Baker & Daniels where she focuses her legal practice in intellectual property and product liability litigation. She serves as a mentor for the Women's Business Enterprise (Fort Wayne Women's Bureau) and is involved with Tobacco Free Allen County.
"I have known that I wanted to be a lawyer since I was in the fourth grade," Butler told the Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly when asked what attracted her to her career. "Our teacher assigned an advocacy project to the class, and I fell in love with the art of arguing and debate. I have always loved to read and write (as well as argue), so it was a perfect fit. I have also always felt very rewarded and fulfilled when I am able to help someone, and I feel that a career in law allows me to do that."
Butler appeared on the cover of Working Mother Magazine in its May 2004 edition and was featured in an article about balancing her career by making her family a priority. In 2007, Butler was given the GOLD (Graduate of the Last Decade) Award by Hillsdale College where she earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry. Butler graduated magna cum laude from the Michigan State University – Detroit College of Law.
