Baker & Daniels 'Briefs in the Kitchen' Receives Legal Marketing Award

Award-winning Briefs in the Kitchen had nothing to do with defendants, plaintiffs and other legal matters at Baker & Daniels LLP and B&D Consulting last holiday season.

The firm's lawyers, consultants and staff shared their favorite recipes with co-workers, families, clients and gift exchanges through a holiday cookbook. Everyone's tasty testimonies were accepted, making the case for a 172-page collection of recipes.

Jim Carr, a Baker & Daniels partner, tied it all together by creating law-themed artwork and captions on the cover and the start of each cookbook section. "And now ladies and gentlemen of the jury, for my opening statement I offer you just a taste of what we will present during this trial," said the introduction to appetizers and snacks.

Hundreds of cookbooks sold for $5 each, and in the holiday spirit of giving, the final verdict went to the American Red Cross who received all proceeds from sales.

Briefs in the Kitchen was recognized by the Legal Marketing Association's Midwest Chapter as the winner of the 2011 Your Honors Awards in the promotional gifts category. The annual LMA awards recognize excellence in legal marketing, sales, business development and design. More than 40 entries from law firms in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin were submitted in various categories for the regional competition.

In 2009, Baker & Daniels received the Judges' Innovation Award from the LMA's Midwest Chapter for its uniqueness and ingenuity during a new branding project called "Baker & Daniels Takes Flight into Identity Launch."
