Leading Food Industry Lawyer, Sarah Brew, Joins Faegre & Benson as Partner

Faegre & Benson today announced that Sarah Brew has joined its Minneapolis office as a partner in the litigation practice. Ms. Brew brings with her a significant national food litigation practice and represents food industry clients facing complex product liability and commercial claims. She will also join the leadership of the firm's national food, agriculture, and biofuels industry practice.

Ms. Brew has developed a national reputation representing food processors, distributors, and retailers in food-borne-illness and contamination cases, defending them against product liability and class action claims and representing them in related commercial litigation. She has served as national or regional counsel in cases arising from many recent outbreaks of food-borne illness involving products such as eggs, spinach, lettuce, alfalfa sprouts, peanut butter, ground beef, and pet food. She also advises clients on regulatory and risk management issues as well as national food recalls. She is a nationally known speaker on these issues.

"We are delighted to welcome Sarah to Faegre & Benson. She is a tremendous addition to our national food practice and her deep experience will further enhance our capabilities in this area," said Andrew Humphrey, managing partner of the firm.

Kim Walker, head of the firm's food, agriculture and biofuels industry team adds, "In the course of a career spanning two decades, she has distinguished herself as skilled counsel in a number of headline-making food contamination cases. Her deep expertise in the areas of food safety and technology, as well as product liability in general, will greatly benefit our clients."

"I am delighted to be joining Faegre & Benson and its national industry focus in the food and agriculture industries. There is no question the clients I serve will benefit from the firm's unmatched industry knowledge across all practice areas," says Ms. Brew.

Prior to joining Faegre & Benson, Ms. Brew was a shareholder in the Minneapolis firm Nilan Johnson Lewis PA. Her representative engagements include serving as national counsel for an egg producer in connection with class action and commercial claims arising from a 2010 Salmonella outbreak and recall, coordinating the defense of a peanut butter distributor as well as a major seed supplier in connection with the 2008-2009 Salmonella outbreaks. She also coordinated the defense of the world's largest fruit and vegetable processor in E. coli-related claims arising from the 2006 spinach recall and served as national trial counsel.

Ms. Brew writes and lectures nationally on a variety of product liability topics, including food law and litigation issues, and she is co-author of the Minnesota practice treatise on products liability law published by Thomson West. She earned her J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School and her B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota.
