At the 2014 National Rx Drug Abuse Summit in Atlanta on April 22, Mary Bono of FaegreBD Consulting was presented with the Courage Award for her leadership in the battle against prescription drug abuse.
Bono, a senior vice president at FaegreBD Consulting and former U.S. congresswoman from California, has played a pivotal role in the prescription drug abuse landscape. During her 15-year congressional career, Bono spearheaded the nationwide anti-abuse movement as co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Prescription Drug Abuse.
Beyond her congressional service, Bono is a board member of Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, co-founder and honorary chairman of Mothers Against Prescription Drug Abuse and an advisory board member of Rally2Recovery. She has spoken at numerous events nationwide on prescription drug abuse, which was declared a public health crisis by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2012.
Bono has previously been honored for her legislative and civic work against prescription drug abuse by the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, the Association for Addiction Professionals, the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare and the Partnership for a Drug-Free America.
The National Rx Drug Abuse Summit is the largest national collaboration of professionals from local, state and federal agencies, business, academia, clinicians, treatment providers, counselors, educators, state and national leaders, and advocates impacted by prescription drug abuse. In addition to accepting the Courage Award, Bono moderated panels on "Improving Communications With Physicians" and "Cracking Down on Unlawful Rx Marketing" and participated on a panel addressing "Realities of Rx Drug Abuse."
At FaegreBD Consulting, Bono advises clients on legislative, regulatory and policy matters affecting the information technology, entertainment and media industries.
