Larry James to Co-Chair Iowa Water Quality Task Force

The Greater Des Moines Partnership has appointed Larry James, counsel in Faegre Baker Daniels’ real estate practice, to chair a water quality task force. James and co-chair Steve Bruere, president of land brokerage firm Peoples Co., will assemble and lead a task force and advisory group to explore a wide range of issues related to water quality in Iowa, including flood prevention, soil erosion, and water pollution from nitrogen and phosphorus.

“We’re trying to find common-ground solutions on underlying water quantity and water quality issues,” Partnership CEO Jay Byers said. The task force convenes as a number of water issues have become subjects of public and legal dispute, including a lawsuit filed by Des Moines Water Works against three Iowa counties for alleged nitrate pollution.

In addition to his legal practice, James has a long track record as an advocate for sustainable practices. He currently serves as chairperson for both Urban Land Institute Iowa and the Sustainable Development Subcommittee of Capital Crossroads—both organizations that promote responsible land use and the development of sustainable communities. From 2010-13, he chaired the Greater Des Moines Partnership Sustainability Committee.
