Faegre Baker Daniels has awarded its 2015 Diversity & Inclusion Fellowships to Marquita Davis and Burnell Grimes Jr., second-year law students at the University of Michigan Law School and the Indiana University McKinney School of Law. Each student will receive a $10,000 stipend and a 2015 summer associate position at FaegreBD.
FaegreBD's Diversity & Inclusion Fellowships support the firm's commitment to increasing diversity in the legal profession by providing hands-on legal experience to law students who are committed to contributing meaningfully to diversity and inclusion in the profession. Each recipient will join our 10-week summer clerkship, participate in formal education and training programs, and be matched with a mentor lawyer.
Davis, who will work in the firm’s Minneapolis office, was a 1L summer intern with FaegreBD in 2014 and also completed a rotation at Boston Scientific. At the University of Michigan Law School, she is a member of the Family Law Project, Student Representation Project and Black Law Students Alliance. During the spring of 2015, Davis was a Geneva International Fellow and externed with the International Institute of Sustainable Development.
Davis holds a Master of Social Work from Tulane University and a bachelor’s degree from Carleton College. Before attending law school, Davis completed a Fulbright Fellowship in Malaysia and worked in social services.
Grimes will clerk in FaegreBD’s Indianapolis office. At the IU McKinney School of Law, he participates in moot court, is a member of the school’s Diversity Committee, is treasurer of the Black Law Student Association, and chairs the executive board of the Indianapolis Bar Association Law Student Division.
Grimes received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, where he studied overseas in Ghana and London. In 2013, he was a fellow with the Indiana Conference on Legal Education Opportunity’s Summer Institute and was honored as the 2013 City of Bloomington (Ind.) Outstanding Black Male Leader of Tomorrow.
