Faegre Baker Daniels partner J.P. Hanlon has been nominated by the White House to serve as United States District Judge, Southern District of Indiana.
Resident in the firm’s Indianapolis office, Hanlon serves as co-chair of FaegreBD’s white collar defense and investigations practice. A former Deputy United States Attorney, he represents clients in government investigations, enforcement proceedings and related civil litigation. He also leads corporate internal investigations and helps clients resolve complex compliance issues. In addition to his service with the U.S. Department of Justice, Hanlon previously served as a federal judicial law clerk and adjunct law school faculty member teaching courses on white collar crime.
He is a published author in the field of white collar crime and has been selected by peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America every year since 2013. Hanlon is an experienced courtroom advocate, having tried criminal and civil cases in U.S. District Court as both a prosecutor and defense lawyer, and having argued numerous cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
“J.P. is a wonderful partner and leader at FaegreBD, and we could not be more pleased with this recognition of his commitment to the practice and our judicial system,” said firm managing partner Tom Froehle. “We wish him well as he moves through the nomination process and returns to a career in public service, this time as a U.S. District Judge.”
Hanlon earned a law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law, magna cum laude, and a bachelor’s degree from DePauw University.
