Governor Nominates Murray Clark as Chairman of Indiana GOP

Gov. Mitch Daniels nominated former state Sen. Murray Clark as the next chairman of the Indiana Republican Party after the resignation of Jim Kittle, the Indianapolis Star reported in its story, "Clark Chosen to Lead GOP."

Kittle will continue to lead the party until at least Feb. 2 when the Republican State Committee will vote on whether to approve Clark, the story said.

The nomination was not something Clark expected, but he told the Indianapolis Star that he was excited to return to politics. Clark, who lives in Indianapolis, left his Senate seat in November to join Baker & Daniels. He ran for lieutenant governor in 2000.

"Murray has a long history of grassroots politics experience and statewide experience through his prior candidacy for lieutenant government," House Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis, said in the story. "I know he will bring a wealth of talent to our state party. I think he's the right leader for the right time."
