Pat Cross Explains Value in Indiana Life Sciences Jobs

Pat Cross, chairman of Baker & Daniels' health and life sciences practice group, talked about how Indiana sets itself apart from other states during an audio segment with Inside Indiana Business. Indiana's 300,000 biosciences workers represent about 9 percent of the state's work force, according to Cross.

"But the significant fact is that it represents about 20 percent of our tax base in the state," Cross said. "Life sciences jobs pay 250 percent of what the average Hoosier wage is. So it's not just more jobs. It's more really good jobs."

Indiana is one of only three states that specializes in three of the four major bioscience subsectors, and the growth rate for the number of jobs continues to outpace growth in most states, Cross said.
