The New Sheriff: FDA's Increased Focus

Until recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had historically deferred regulation of animal feed facilities, as well as ethanol facilities producing feed as coproducts, to the states. Andrew Anderson and Steve Toeniskoetter authored an article for Ethanol Producer Magazine which discusses the FDA's passage of the Food Safety Modernization Act and how the agency has begun to assert its authority and show interest in regulating ethanol facilities at the federal level.
