Larry James Drives Sustainable Practices as Chair of the Urban Land Institute of Iowa

As a real estate lawyer, Larry James, counsel in Faegre Baker Daniels’ Des Moines office, knows the business of land development and urban planning. As chair of the Iowa District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), he parlays that knowledge into efforts at creating sustainable communities and development practices. In an article in Build Des Moines, James discussed how the organization achieves its goals for greener communities through a practical, professional approach.

“Sustainability is a way of thinking,” James said. “And one of the unique things about ULI is that its members recognize that. But they’re also business people. You can’t expect to build sustainably if it doesn’t pencil out, so their sustainability has to be profit-driven or they’re out of business.”
