Overview

Patrick Reilly represents multinational and Fortune 500 clients in complex litigation, regularly acting as national coordinating counsel to manufacturers and technology companies in product liability actions. He also leads the firm’s sports and gaming practice and regularly advises clients on sports matters. In addition, Patrick co-leads the EU Collective Redress Directive team and serves as class, consumer and mass tort global coordination counsel.

Patrick also defends technology companies in high-stakes product liability actions. He has particular familiarity with issues of first impression like platform liability, in which the application or software is alleged to be defective.

Patrick has served all sorts of roles for clients in mass tort litigation, with a particular emphasis on national coordinating counsel, settlement counsel and trial counsel. His settlement counsel work, in particular, ranges from recalls and pre-litigation claims management to resolving inventories and structuring mass tort settlements.

Products Liability

Patrick has represented national and international manufacturers of a variety of products in state and federal courts across the United States and in Canada, ranging from single-plaintiff cases to class actions and MDLs.

He has particular experience defending Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 drug and device manufacturers in mass torts. Patrick leads the firm’s Medical Device practice as part of the Health and Life Sciences Industry team. His pharmaceutical experience includes drugs, reagents, vaccines, injections and therapeutics for treatments such as arthritis, erectile dysfunction and protein buildup. His device and diagnostic experience includes joint implants, IVC filters, hernia mesh, pelvic mesh, pain pumps and IV tubing. Patrick also represents clients in litigation related to human tissue and allografts.

Patrick defends national and international manufacturers in the automotive, marine and watercraft, transportation, and recreational vehicle industries. Clients whom he represents include a Fortune 500 manufacturer of engines, filtration and power generation products; one of North America’s largest producers of semi-trailers; one of the world’s largest manufacturers of snowmobiles, ATVs and neighborhood electric vehicles; and one of the world’s largest beverage companies.

Sports Law

As leader of the Sports and Gaming practice, Patrick litigates matters from contract disputes to class actions. His experience runs the gamut from collegiate athletics, professional and Olympic sports, to video games. He has worked on matters for clients such as:

  • The National Football League (NFL)
  • The National Hockey League (NHL)
  • The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
  • USA Track and Field
  • USA Football
  • Diadora Shoe Company

Legal Design

Patrick uses his problem-solving skills to aid in the firm’s work with Design Lab, offering Design Sprints, Ideation sessions, workshops and applied design thinking to advance solutions. As a Design Lab catalyst, he applies design thinking to client projects and problems.

Personal Interests

Patrick passionately promotes diversity in the legal field through mentorship and leadership in legal organizations, including the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) and the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Diversity Job Fair Committee, among others.

While he enjoys advising sports entities, he also likes to personally get into the game. At Butler University, Patrick served as captain of the varsity men’s soccer team and earned ESPN Academic All-American Honors.
