A 12-person jury returned a verdict in favor of Zimmer Biomet in the case of John Pugliese v. Zimmer, Inc. The case was tried in St. Clair County, Illinois - one of the most challenging judicial districts for defendants in litigation in the U.S. After a three-week trial, the jury unanimously ruled for Zimmer on all claims filed by the plaintiff, which related to the hip-replacement product, the Durom Acetabular Cup (Durom Cup). Faegre Baker Daniels served as lead trial counsel in this trial.
This was the first Durom case to be tried out of several hundred product liability lawsuits filed nationwide at the state and federal levels. This positive outcome for Zimmer represents a major victory for the global orthopedic manufacturer.
