Complex and sophisticated estate plans are necessary to accomplish our clients’ business succession objectives and the continued management of family capital. And those estate plans require an equally sophisticated ability to administer trusts and estates. We represent executors and trustees, both individuals and corporate entities, in every step of the administration process.
When an executor prepares to settle an estate according to the benefactor's wishes, we facilitate the administration process, from initiating probate proceedings to open the estate through final distributions. We assist with valuation issues and in identifying estate issues, and we counsel executors and trustees on all tax-related matters, including the proper completion of all required fiduciary income and estate tax returns, both state and federal. After valuation and tax matters are resolved, we facilitate prompt distributions of estate assets.
We also assist trustees in funding and administering revocable and irrevocable trusts. We make sure tax situs issues for trusts are considered and properly addressed. If questions arise as to the appropriate interpretation of a trust or if changes are desired with respect to a trust, even one that is irrevocable, we assist trustees and beneficiaries in considering options that are available under the laws of various jurisdictions. We counsel beneficiaries on their interests in trusts and estates, and we advocate on their behalf in the event of disputes with fellow beneficiaries or fiduciaries.
