Increase in "Injury to Feelings" Awards in Discrimination Claims
The Vento bands for “injury to feelings” awards in discrimination claims have been increased. The new figures, applicable to claims issued on or after 11 September 2017, are as follows:
- Lower band, for the least serious cases: £800 to £8,400 (previously £660 to £6,600)
- Middle band, for serious cases that do not merit an award in the highest band: £8,400 to £25,200 (previously £6,600 to £19,800)
- Higher band, for the most serious cases: £25,200 to £42,000 (previously £19,800 to £33,000)
- Exceptional cases: £42,000+ (previously £33,000+)
The figures will be next reviewed in March 2018 and annually thereafter.
