Overview

Office Leader

Prior to opening our Shanghai office in 2001, Faegre Drinker's lawyers began building relationships in China during the 1980s and started representing U.S. companies in China during the early 1990s. Our lawyers in China are experienced professionals who speak Chinese and English. More importantly, we know how to bridge the culture gap between Chinese and foreign investors, and provide practical solutions to help clients achieve their objectives. We understand governmental compliance issues and restrictions, and are knowledgeable on the way Chinese and foreign companies do business in the unique legal and government landscape in China.

Our corporate team has extensive experience advising U.S. and global clients on operating within legal and business environments in China as well as on investment, trade and commercial matters throughout the Greater China region. Our employment attorneys are leaders in their field, handling a broad range of contentious and non-contentious issues in this area.

Living and Working in Shanghai

With a population of more than 24 million, Shanghai is the largest and most developed city in China, and over the last two decades has become a global city with influence in commerce, culture, finance, media, fashion, technology and transport. It is a major financial center and the busiest container port in the world. Shanghai is a city of stunning contrasts and vibrant energy where one can go from having dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant overlooking the Bund to walking the tree-lined streets of the former French Concession to taking in a panoramic view of the city from the 118th floor of the tallest skyscraper in China to gazing at a 10th-century monastery all in the space of a few hours.
