Tenley Drescher-Rhoades, an associate at Baker & Daniels LLP, has been named co-chair of Indianapolis' new "Green Commission." The commission was created to help implement the Indy GreenPrint – a city-wide vision designed to create a sustainable Indianapolis that contributes to climate protection and promotes energy efficiency and conservation.
Mayor Bart Peterson announced the commission's 20 appointments, who represent both public and private sectors. Serving as co-chair with Drescher-Rhoades is Robert McKinney of First Indiana Bank. All appointments are unpaid, and members will serve a two-year term.
The Green Commission will meet monthly for the remainder of 2007 and bi-monthly or quarterly in 2008. Commission members will initially focus on creating action plan recommendations for the goals designated as "Community Challenge" in three of the Indy GreenPrint's six areas: Energy and Emissions, Natural Resource Stewardship and Smart Development.
The Green Commission is responsible for ensuring accountability for those items in the Indy GreenPrint that are designated as "City Hall Steps" and developing action plans for those items that are listed under "Community Challenge." In addition, the commission will advise on key policy items of importance to Indianapolis' citizenry, such as review and revision of the ordinances and regulations and establishing an emissions reduction goal for Indianapolis.
At Baker & Daniels, Drescher-Rhoades practices in the public finance group where she counsels public and private entities with development projects, procurement, and governmental consolidation and collaboration. Drescher-Rhoades is former Deputy Corporation Counsel for the city of Indianapolis.
