John Emanuele, Ph.D., Joins Baker & Daniels Intellectual Property Law Group

John J. Emanuele, Ph.D., has joined the intellectual property group at Baker & Daniels LLP where he will serve as counsel from the law firm's downtown Indianapolis office.

Emanuele brings extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications in the chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology arts. Besides filing patent applications, appeals and responses for clients, he will prepare opinions on patentability, freedom to operate and provide litigation case analysis in a variety of areas, including biotechnology, medical devices, analytical instrumentation, diagnostic tests and pharmaceutical compositions and treatments.

Emanuele earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2002, his Ph.D. in biochemistry and biophysics from Texas A&M University in 1994 and his bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in 1985.

Before joining Baker & Daniels, Emanuele practiced intellectual property law in Indianapolis for seven years. Prior to earning his law degree, he worked in the corporate sector as a research scientist in the bio-energy, pharmaceutical, food flavor and fragrance industries. Emanuele held a post-doctoral research fellow position at a major pharmaceutical company in New Jersey and worked as a senior research scientist in a start-up biotechnology company in The Woodlands, Texas.

Emanuele is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, American Chemical Society, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Executive Licensing Society.
