Three other Baker & Daniels' Chicago attorneys — Andrew M. Geier in business/corporate, Samuel P. Gussis in real estate and Rachel T. Nguyen in business litigation — were named "Rising Stars," each for the third straight year. "Rising Stars" recognizes the top up-and-coming lawyers who are 40 years old or younger or who have been practicing law for 10 years or less.
Baker & Daniels opened an office in downtown Chicago in 2008. Founded in 1863 in Indianapolis, the firm has more than 370 lawyers and legal professionals in offices in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, South Bend, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Beijing.
Super Lawyers is an annual listing of outstanding attorneys who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Top lawyers are chosen by other attorneys and the independent research of Law & Politics, which has been publishing legal magazines since 1990 and Super Lawyers since 1991.
A survey asks lawyers to nominate the best attorneys they've personally observed in action. Each nomination carries a point value, and nominations from other law firms have substantially greater point value than nominations from lawyers in the same firm. Only the top 5 percent of attorneys in each state are selected among the most elite.
The objective of Super Lawyers is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource to assist attorneys and consumers in the search for legal counsel. All honorees are listed on the Web site www.superlawyers.com.
The Super Lawyers and Rising Stars lists will appear in Illinois Super Lawyers magazine, which will be distributed to attorneys in Illinois, the lead corporate counsel of Russell 3000 companies and American Bar Association-accredited law school libraries. Selected attorneys in Illinois also will appear in a special advertising section in the February 2010 issue of Chicago magazine.
