Francina A. Dlouhy and Andrew Z. Soshnick, both of Baker & Daniels LLP, have been named Indianapolis 2011 Lawyers of the Year by Best Lawyers, the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession.
After more than a quarter of a century in publication, Best Lawyers is designating "Lawyers of the Year" in high-profile legal specialties in large legal communities. Only a single lawyer in each specialty in each community is being honored as the "Lawyer of the Year."
Dlouhy was selected in administrative/regulatory law. A partner at Baker & Daniels, she is the practice leader of the firm's state and local tax group. Dlouhy practices in all areas of state and local taxation, representing business taxpayers in administrative proceedings and litigation involving state income taxes, sales and use tax, financial institutions taxes, and real and personal property taxes. She also represents clients on tax planning and obtaining incentives for investment and expansion. Francina has extensive experience with tax abatement, enterprise zones, EDGE credits, and research and development incentives.
Soshnick was chosen in family law. Also a Baker & Daniels partner, he chairs the firm's family law group and concentrates his practice in counseling and representing individuals in a wide array of family law matters, with particular emphasis on the economic aspects of matrimonial law. His concentration includes addressing sophisticated financial issues such as valuing and dividing complex marital assets, assessing executive compensation and benefits, tax analysis and planning, tracing of assets, and drafting premarital agreements. Soshnick also represents clients in contested child custody and child support proceedings.
Best Lawyers compiles its lists of outstanding attorneys by conducting exhaustive peer-review surveys in which thousands of leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers. The 17th edition of The Best Lawyers in America (2011) is based on more than 3.1 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers.
Dlouhy has been listed in Best Lawyers since 1989 and Soshnick since 1999. The attorneys being honored as "Lawyers of the Year" have received particularly high ratings in Best Lawyers surveys by earning a high level of respect among their peers for their abilities, professionalism and integrity.
"We continue to believe — as we have believed for more than 25 years — that recognition by one's peers is the most meaningful form of praise in the legal profession," Steven Naifeh, President of Best Lawyers, said.
Last year, Baker & Daniels attorneys named Lawyers of the Year were Jon B. Laramore in appellate practice, John W. Purcell in employee benefits and Joseph (Jay) H. Yeager, Jr. in bet-the-company litigator.
