Shannon Reed Chosen to Lead Allen County Bar Association

Shannon K. Reed of Faegre Baker Daniels has been named president of the Allen County Indiana Bar Association (ACBA) for a term beginning Oct. 1, 2011, and ending Sept. 30, 2012.

Reed has been a member of the bar association's board of directors since 2007 and has previously held the positions of president-elect and vice president. She also served as chair of the association's Women Lawyers Section from 2005 to 2009.

Founded in 1890, the ACBA is a voluntary association for legal professionals with three main goals: to assist in the due administration of justice, to promote the continued legal education of lawyers and laypeople, and to maintain the integrity of the legal profession. The ACBA fulfills these purposes by sponsoring legal education programs and social activities and participating in public service programs. The bar association's public service programs include connecting individuals with legal needs to appropriate attorneys through the Lawyer Referral Service, providing free legal advice to underserved individuals by telephone through its Legal Line program and presenting legal information sessions to various groups.

A member of the health care team at Baker & Daniels, Reed counsels health care providers on regulatory compliance and fraud and abuse issues; employment issues, including physician recruitment and the formation, negotiation and enforcement of provider agreements; medical staff and peer review issues; licensure and accreditation; and privacy issues. In 2010, Indiana Super Lawyers named Reed as a rising star in the field of health care law.

Reed also devotes time to the Volunteer Lawyer Program of Northeast Indiana, the Allen County Superior Court Mental Health Pro Bono Program and the Allen County Volunteer Lawyer Program. She was honored by the Allen County Bar Association for devoting more than 50 hours of pro bono services in 2008. Additionally, Reed serves on the board of Super Shot, a community health clinic, and on the Baker & Daniels Women's Forum Steering Committee. She is also a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and the Indiana State Bar Association.

A 2000 graduate of Valparaiso University School of Law, Reed is now a member of the school's Fort Wayne Area Council. She earned her bachelor's degree magna cum laude from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater in 1997.
