Tom Froehle and Ernest Summers, both of Baker & Daniels LLP, have been named to Building Indiana's Who's Who in Indiana Class of 2011 in recognition of their professional and civic contributions.
Each year, Building Indiana publishes the Who's Who in Indiana list to recognize individuals in all industries who contribute to making Indiana a vibrant and active state. Honorees have improved the state's future by advancing Indiana business and industry while also serving their communities. "What they do from nine to five is only a part of the story," according to Building Indiana.
As chair and chief executive partner at Baker & Daniels, Froehle leads one of the state's largest law firms from its Indianapolis headquarters. He assumed his current role in 2008 and has been a member of the firm's management team since 2000.
In his legal practice, Froehle has combined his transactional and finance skills and understanding of government to serve as counsel for a variety of governmental entities and public projects. He represented the Capital Improvement Board in connection with development of the new convention center and stadium in downtown Indianapolis and negotiation of a long-term lease with the Colts, and he served as underwriter's counsel in financing for the new Indianapolis airport. Froehle is a member of the Indiana Municipal Lawyers Association, the National Association of Bond Lawyers, and the Indianapolis, Indiana State and American Bar Associations.
Froehle donates his time to numerous civic organizations in Indianapolis. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Indiana Sports Corporation, the United Way Tocqueville Council, the Indiana Repertory Theatre, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School and Indianapolis Downtown, Inc. Froehle also volunteers at Indianapolis Public School 39, providing individualized assistance for students struggling with reading and math skills. Through work with these organizations, he has impacted sporting events, arts, education, tourism, economic development and philanthropy in Indiana.
Summers is a partner in Baker & Daniels' business litigation practice group where he focuses on commercial litigation regarding product liability, insurance recovery claims, antitrust, licensing and distribution, securities fraud and mass toxic tort. His background includes multiple cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and many federal class actions and international distribution disputes involving the Hague Convention, including having tried the first U.S. case interpreting the antitrust laws of the European Community. A resident of Long Beach in northwest Indiana, Summers practices from the firm's Chicago office.
Committed to advancing his profession and community, Summers has served on the board of trustees for the Indiana Society of Chicago since 1981 and has been chairman of the board since 2007. In this position, he leads the Society in its efforts to promote understanding of Indiana's history, support and honor institutions and citizens of Indiana, and celebrate the values and traditions of Hoosiers. Summers is also a member of the Risk & Insurance Management Society, the Economic Club of Chicago, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, and the American, Seventh Circuit and Chicago Bar Associations.
Building Indiana publishes the state's business and economic development news in six issues each year. Nominations for Who's Who were accepted from outside sources and selections were made by the Building Indiana editorial staff.
