Faegre Baker Daniels LLP is pleased to announce that Larry James, Jr. has joined the firm's Des Moines office as counsel in the real estate practice.
James specializes in transactional real estate law, including platting, sales and leasing transactions, and planning and zoning. He works closely with developers on land development and redevelopment transactions.
James previously practiced at Hogan Law Office and at Dickinson Mackaman Tyler & Hagen, P.C., both of Des Moines. He also formerly operated his own development company which coordinated a major mixed-use redevelopment project, the University Place Lofts in Des Moines' Drake neighborhood.
An active civic leader, James chairs the organizing committee of the Urban Land Institute Iowa, the sustainable development subcommittee of Capital Crossroads: Environmental Capital campaign, and the sustainability committee of the Greater Des Moines Partnership. He is also a board member of the Waveland Park Neighborhood Association. In the past, he held leadership roles with the Greater Des Moines Partnership, West-Side Chamber of Commerce, the Polk County Bar Association Real Estate Committee, Chairperson, and the Drake Area Business Association.
He was recognized as a "Best Lawyer in America" in land use and zoning law in 2011 and named an "Associate to Watch" in real estate law by Chambers USA in 2010. He was a member of the 2009 "Forty Under 40" class in the Des Moines Business Record and in 2008 received the Young Professional of the Year award from the Greater Des Moines Partnership.
Larry is a graduate of Drake University Law School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee.
