Faegre Baker Daniels business trial and commercial litigation partner Michael McCarthy has been named a “Lawyer of the Year” by Law Week Colorado – a recognition bestowed on Colorado attorneys who displayed legal excellence throughout the year.
According to Law Week Colorado, McCarthy “gathered an array of accomplishments in the past year, from State Supreme Court success to a favorable outcome in a trade secret-related arbitration.”
McCarthy was chosen as a “Lawyer of the Year” in part for his work leading a FaegreBD pro bono team in a four-year legal effort resulting in a major victory on June 29, 2015 in the Colorado Supreme Court for client Taxpayers for Public Education in a high-profile school voucher case. He was also recognized for his role in helping lead a team that obtained dismissal of a case seeking a $10 million claim in U.S. District Court related to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act; as well as his representation of a technology client in an arbitrated case of alleged trade secret misappropriation – resulting in a settlement favorable to the client.
An experienced and well-respected trial lawyer, McCarthy has spent more than 30 years pursuing his practice focused on civil trial and complex commercial disputes, with a particular emphasis on class actions, securities claims, contractual disputes, corporate, consumer protection, antitrust and environmental litigation. A Fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, McCarthy’s success within the legal profession has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers, and he has been ranked as a Band 1 lawyer by Chambers in the Commercial Litigation category for several years.
