Former Congresswoman and FaegreBD Consulting Principal Mary Bono has been honored by the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) with the “Champion for Drug-Free Kids” award, for her countless hours of leadership and service—both in and out of Congress—towards reducing drug abuse among America’s youth.
The honor was presented to Bono at CADCA’s 18th annual Drug-Free Kids Campaign Awards Dinner on Oct. 6, 2016—an event that brought together business, Federal, congressional and community leaders from across the country who support CADCA’s mission of creating safe, health and drug-free communities. Scott Melville, President and CEO of Consumer Healthcare Products Association, received the Humanitarian of the Year Award at the event.
Bono, a former United States congresswoman from California, served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1998-2013. She is well known for her willingness to step to the forefront of the nationwide fight against prescription drug abuse and while in Congress, co-founded the Congressional Caucus on Prescription Drug Abuse.
Since leaving Congress, Bono has developed a robust practice as a principal at FaegreBD Consulting, advising businesses and other entities nationwide on legislative, regulatory and policy matters. She continues to be instrumental in promoting abuse and addiction prevention and recovery through policy advocacy, communications strategy and education of health care professionals.
The mission of CADCA (Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America) is to strengthen the capacity of community coalitions to create and maintain safe, healthy and drug-free communities globally.
