Faegre Baker Daniels is flying high after the arrival of associate Luke Westerman. The United States Air Force veteran-turned-attorney recently joined FaegreBD’s product liability practice in Minneapolis.
Westerman has represented food and agribusiness clients in matters related to product liability, Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) compliance, and pesticide drift. His experience operating a family farm and his strong background in agronomy inform his practical approach to compliance and litigation challenges.
Westerman previously worked for another international law firm in Denver, handling agribusiness and commercial litigation matters. He also gained federal jury trial experience, second-chairing a pro bono civil rights case involving a prisoner.
Prior to attending law school, Westerman held the rank of captain in the United States Air Force, serving as a senior director on board the E-3 AWACS aircraft. He deployed multiple times during his active duty service, flying combat missions in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and Odyssey Dawn/Unified Protector, as well as counter-narcoterrorism missions in South America. He was also stationed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for a year, flying with and training the Royal Saudi Air Force.
Westerman earned his J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School, where he served as the associate editor of the school’s Law Review. Westerman was also a member of the Order of the Coif. He earned his M.S. in agronomy from Iowa State University and his B.A. in environmental studies from the University of Minnesota – Duluth, where he graduated cum laude.
