Who We’re SeekingLaw students who have strong academic records, entrepreneurial spirits, diverse perspectives and collaborative mindsets will find opportunities to succeed and eventually develop into successful partners or long-term contributors with national reputations.
How You’ll GrowSummer associates receive a hands-on, meaningful experience. We encourage your growth with challenging work, intensive professional development programs, personalized mentoring and coaching, and respectful yet candid feedback. You’ll be able to participate in pro bono work and connect with peers and our lawyers throughout the summer.
When and Where to Join Us
Our 10-week program begins in mid-May and is available in many of our U.S. offices. Programs include our Chicago, Des Moines, Denver, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and Silicon Valley offices.
Jumpstarting Your PracticeNew associates participate in a firmwide orientation program to integrate into the firm and understand law firm life. In addition to covering benefits and technology, we hold interactive programs and panel discussions on topics such as the basics of lawyering and working with support professionals, so you can hit the ground running.
Building Your CareerWe provide training on topics critical to success in today’s legal environment, including:
- Practice and technical skill proficiency
- Development of behavioral competencies
- Understanding the business of operating a law firm
- Business development
- Client service
Mentoring for SuccessWe connect each associate with an advisor who focuses on career development and planning. Associates actively participate in their career planning by communicating practice goals and objectives. By collaborating closely with senior lawyers on legal work, associates experience valuable coaching.
Growing Through FeedbackAssociates receive ongoing feedback from supervising lawyers so they can continually improve. Through our formal evaluation process, new lawyers are evaluated mid-year during their first year, and all lawyers are reviewed annually. Evaluations include a self-assessment, individual and group evaluations, and an in-person evaluation meeting with the lawyer's practice group.

What Our Summer Associates Say
Getting to Know Us
"By the end of my summer with Faegre Baker Daniels, I had a strong idea of what firm life is like. FaegreBD provides ample opportunities to meet with attorneys and build professional relationships through informal social events, scheduled business lunches and firm-sponsored dinners. The summer program also does a wonderful job of fostering camaraderie among the interns, and it has left me feeling comfortable and confident about my future as an associate, as well as life as a new resident of Indianapolis."
Bob Onghetich (University of Notre Dame Law School) Indianapolis Office
"At Faegre Baker Daniels, summer associates are given the work a typical first-year associate would do, which is an invaluable experience. Over the past two summers, I have had the opportunity to do a variety of projects, including drafting provisional patents, making edits to agreements, researching cutting-edge legal issues, and drafting legal documents. It has helped me gain exposure to different practice areas and learn what the day-to-day for litigators and transactional attorneys really looks like."
Eva Tang (Emory University School of Law) Minneapolis Office
Training & Mentoring
"The training and mentoring available to us as summer associates have been phenomenal. My advisor has been an especially incredible resource to me. I have been able to go to her for advice on anything – from how to tackle a difficult assignment to the best ways to meet partners to what to wear to firm events. But my advisor is not the only support system that I have found this summer. Everyone here has been happy to offer advice, which has been extremely valuable."
Taylor Brook (University of Michigan Law School) Denver Office
Evaluations & Feedback
"During my time at Faegre Baker Daniels, I was frequently told that the firm will go to great lengths to ensure the success of each attorney. This was evidenced by the thorough feedback I received on casework. I was never asked to change a document without the assigning attorney explaining the significance of the edits and taking time to answer every question I had so that I could benefit from the experience."
