India Immigration Update: Insights from Meetings with U.S. Consular and Indian Immigration Officials

Minneapolis, MN

Overview

Many U.S. companies have a strong connection with India. They either have offices in India or are bringing employees from or to there. On November 8, 2013, Faegre Baker Daniels senior immigration attorneys Peter Yost, Elaine Kumpula and Sarah Kilibarda will be traveling to India to meet with U.S. consular officers, Indian immigration officials and other attorneys. The trip, organized by the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the American Immigration Counsel, will allow us to gain a deeper understanding of the visa application practices of Department of State consular offices in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, and to ask questions of Indian government officials as to India's evolving immigration laws and procedures.

This trip will allow our team a rare opportunity to dialogue with consular officers and observe visa application interviews. This type of in-person observation will give FaegreBD's immigration team additional tools to prepare foreign national employees who apply for visas at the U.S. consulates in India, including those applicants under the Blanket L program. The meetings with Indian immigration officials will also provide a unique perspective as to the controls the Indian government has in place for granting work permits and business visas to foreigners entering India.

We will be discussing our insights over breakfast and highlighting relevant immigration-related recommendations that affect employers and employees with a connection to India. Please join us.
