Scott Chinn Speaks with Indiana Lawyer About a Proposed Constitutional Convention

A bill in the Indiana Senate authored by Senate President Pro Tem David Long is seeking to convene a state-administered Constitutional Convention to stop what he depicted as the federal government's interference of states' rights.

Speaking to Indiana Lawyer, Faegre Baker Daniels partner Scott Chinn acknowledged that getting 34 states to agree to a convention would be difficult, but he fell short of dismissing the proposal. "My opinion is this ought to be taken very seriously," he said. Chinn called the argument for states' rights the "great question" about the role of the federal government in state matters. "I think Indiana has often been a state concerned with asserting its own sovereignty status and not just yielding to the federal government and federal legislation," Chinn said.
