Brad Frederiksen, chief information and knowledge management officer at Faegre Baker Daniels, was profiled in Bloomberg BNA’s Business of Law section in May 2015. Frederiksen was asked about the role of knowledge management in law, technology trends, the biggest accomplishments of his career, and his favorite piece of personal technology.
Frederiksen explained the concept of knowledge management, and why it is so vital to a law firm. “When your product is knowledge, knowledge management is inventory control,” he said. “It is what makes firms greater than just the sum of individuals.”
Frederiksen noted that mobility is perhaps the biggest technology trend law firms are seeing today, adding that learning how to integrate new technology into the overall structure of the firm is key to its success.
When asked about his proudest accomplishments, Frederiksen pointed to FaegreBD’s 2012 combination. “We all mobilized across all operational areas to take the two firms to a new place,” he said. “It was really a process of engaging all the operational people in the firm and moving the firm through this significant combination. We did it in three years, essentially, because we were so organized and we were working together in an integrated way.”
