Charles D. Calvin

Senior Counsel

Charles D. Calvin represents clients in corporate and commercial transactions, with particular emphasis on commercial real estate and project finance. He counsels clients in all aspects of commercial property law, including conventional and leveraged leasing of both real and personal property, construction and long-term mortgage financing, sales and acquisitions, and real estate development. He also represents clients in the sale, acquisition and financing of hospitals, electric power plants and other large industrial facilities.

Commercial Real Estate

In recent years, Charles' real estate practice has focused on acquisition, development and operation of mixed-use common interest communities, including condominium projects and planned communities, often in resort communities. Reflecting the vagaries of commercial real estate markets, Charles' practice at other times has emphasized the restructuring of loans on distressed real estate, including office buildings, hotels, shopping centers, apartments and development properties, as well as foreclosures and receiverships where voluntary restructuring proved impossible. In the early 1990s, a major part of his practice involved representing the liquidators of failed thrift institutions in connection with both public and sealed-bid auctions of real estate in Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. Throughout this period he has continued to represent clients engaged in a variety of non-real estate commercial and financing transactions.
