Fishers Revises List of Permitted Building Materials for Commercial/Industrial Buildings

The City of Fishers approved this week amendments to the City’s Unified Development Ordinance that added four new permitted exterior building materials to its list of permitted exterior materials for commercial and industrial buildings.

  • Affected zoning districts and uses: All commercial and industrial zoning districts and permitted non-residential uses on residentially zoned properties (e.g., a church).
  • New materials now permitted: Wood, reclaimed wood, composite metal panels and high-pressure laminate (HPL) with a decorative surface that is suitable for exteriors.
  • Existing materials already permitted: Brick, split-face concrete masonry unit, fiber cement board siding, stone, stucco, decorative precast panels, integrally colored block and EIFS.

The amendments also add certain definitions and limits on some of the materials.  The amendments make no changes to the permitted building materials list for residential uses on residentially zoned properties (e.g., single-family homes, duplexes, apartments).
