Feds’ Ongoing Efforts to Recruit, Retain Foreign Talent in STEM

Indiana Lawyer

Labor and employment counsel Beth Carlson and associate Kirat Sandhu, members of the firm’s immigration and global mobility team, coauthored an article for the Indiana Lawyer titled “Feds’ Ongoing Efforts to Recruit, Retain Foreign Talent in STEM,” which covers new efforts to attract science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) talent to strengthen the U.S. economy and competitiveness.

Carlson and Sandhu discuss in detail the increased guidance on the O-1A visa for individuals with extraordinary ability or achievement in the sciences and the EB-1 employment-based, first-preference immigrant visa for individuals of extraordinary ability in the sciences and outstanding professors or researchers.

The authors note that the efforts have resulted in an uptick in the approvals of nonimmigrant and immigrant visa applications for high-skilled foreign talent in STEM, which should continue into 2024.
