Overview
Elizabeth Carter is a commercial litigator focused on the financial services industry. She represents banking and insurance clients in litigation involving contract disputes, consumer debt collection, securities, credit card financing and processing, and mergers and acquisitions. Elizabeth also advises clients on cybersecurity issues and represents clients in commercial property tax appeals.
Consumer Debt Collection
Elizabeth defends multiple international banking clients in consumer litigation involving the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
Insurance
Elizabeth works closely with insurance clients on agent and customer disputes. In doing so, she has worked with insurance regulators in over 10 states regarding agent fraud and customer complaints. Elizabeth has also advised clients on insurance regulations across the United States.
M&A Litigation
Elizabeth represents clients in litigation involving mergers and acquisitions. This includes obtaining injunctions to prevent the dissiplation of funds prior to merger/going private transactions.
Commercial Property Tax Appeals
Elizabeth has represented clients in more than 50 commercial property tax appeals across the state of Iowa. Her representation includes petitions to local Boards of Review, and appeals to district courts and the Iowa Property Assessment Appeal Board (PAAB).
Cybersecurity
Elizabeth advises clients on compliance with domestic and international cybersecurity regulations, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Appeals
Elizabeth has appellate experience in front of the Federal, Seventh and Eighth Circuits, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court.
Pharmaceutical Patent Litigation
Elizabeth has represented pharmaceutical clients in several multimillion-dollar Hatch-Waxman litigations, including four federal district court trials.
Past Experience
Before joining Faegre Baker Daniels, Elizabeth litigated pharmaceutical patent matters at Winston & Strawn LLP in Chicago.
Personal Interests
