Overview

Sophie Gotlieb focuses on complex civil litigation as well as white collar investigations and defense. Sophie has assisted clients in matters in front of the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and a number of other governmental and regulatory agencies. She skillfully assists clients: from drafting dispositive motions and conducting investigation interviews, to preparing discovery for production, to preparing for trial and arbitration hearings.

Sophie has worked on a variety of cases with allegations of fraud, white-collar crime, breach of contract and other civil dispute matters, including:

  • Assisting in providing counsel to various C-suite employees of public companies in SEC investigations involving allegations of tax fraud and other monetary-related crimes.
  • Assisting in representing various commodities traders in CME Group investigations.
  • Assisting in various internal investigations of public companies into allegations of fraud.
  • Assisting various privately and publicly held companies respond to formal government inquiries.
  • Assisting clients through the arbitration process, from initiation through final hearings.
  • Assisted in defending numerous clients in nationwide class action suits involving the TCPA, BIPA, and other consumer fraud allegations.

Representative Experience

  • As second chair trial counsel, obtained a sweeping defense victory for one of the largest health systems in the country in a week-long arbitration trial. The case involved a securities-related dispute following the health system’s divestiture of certain assets to an institutional investor. Plaintiffs sought millions in alleged damages and asserted claims for breach of fiduciary duty, tortious interference, declaratory judgment and injunctive relief. We prevailed on all counts after almost two years of contentious litigation.
  • Represented an international automobile manufacturer in numerous consumer class actions alleging the existence of undisclosed defects in the transmissions of certain automobile models.
  • Represented numerous clients across various industries in other consumer class action matters in federal courts across the country.
