The Insurance Interview: The Changing Role of the Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM)

In this latest installment of “The Insurance Interview,” Faegre Baker Daniels partner Scott Kosnoff speaks with partner Jay Warmuth about the ever-changing and growing role of the Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM). As a former general counsel of OptumRx, one of the nation’s largest PBMs and part of UnitedHealth Group, Warmuth has seen the PBM role evolve from its traditional focus on pharmacy networks and claims administration to more complex issues including clinical programs, formulary management and specialty pharmacy care. As the PBM role has grown, so has the focus on legal and regulatory compliance, as well as the political spotlight on drug pricing and rebates.

Warmuth provides insight into the issues PBMs will face in the future, from government regulation to contract negotiations with payers and pharmacies. Turn up your speakers and listen to the conversation.
